Shined or Shone

(Transitive): shine, shined, shined
(Intransitive): shine, shone, shone

When used to denote giving out light, shine always takes the past tense shone (intransitive). When used to denote polishing or making something brighter, the verb is transitive and takes the past tense shined. Prefer the intransitive form when followed by on or from: The sun shone on me, The light shone from above.
